Differentiate a unit of work for gifted learners!
Gifted and talented students are entitled to rigorous, relevant and engaging learning opportunities drawn from the Australian Curriculum and aligned with their individual learning needs, strengths, interests and goals.” (ACARA, Australian Curriculum v8.3).
To gain optimal benefit from this workshop, it is essential that you bring to the workshop a unit of work you are currently teaching or are about to teach so that you can differentiate it for gifted learners.
Come and differentiate a topic you are teaching using Kaplan’s icons of depth and complexity. The purpose of the icons is to generate a deeper and more complex thought process as students assimilate new information and make connections. Kaplan’s icons of depth and complexity can be used in the context of inquiry – an element of the Australian Curriculum – to assist students in selecting an area of study which is neither too narrow or broad. The icons can also be used to guide students towards meaningful information in their research. And the icons of depth and complexity can also be used in motivating, pre-testing, enriching or culminating a topic.
